This meet had our biggest turnout so far. A few lifters didn't show up because of the big snow,
sleet and freezing rain storm that hit the Northeast on Thursday and Friday. Many thanks go to
Réjean and Johanne Talon and their crew of about 20 volunteers for their hard work to put this one on.
The most pleasant part was the fact that more than half of the lifters were novice and junior lifters.
A couple of new powerlifting clubs brought in new lifters and were pleased about the event. So the future
of powerlifting is looking very good in Quebec.

This was the first OPA/QPF challenge ever held. Ontario beat Quebec by about 30 points. The total points
for Ontario's best 6 lifters was 2,512.505 and Quebec got 2,483.086 points. This was really close.
The meet was held at the Atlantis Fitness Center in Rock Forest, Que. Great meet site with plenty of
equipment and weights to warm up. A few lifters were at their first or second meet only, and had a
chance to get a good feeling of being part of a team effort and try to put some good numbers on the board.
I don't know if Steve Mackenzie was the official OPA coach, but he certainly took care of many lifters.
He was the recipient of the best team award. (Well, he kind of stole it from Heather Johns!)
We certainly hope the event will be repeated next year.

The meet was held at the Paul-Hubert High School auditorium. Fantastic meet site for lifters and
spectators. Many new lifters were at their first experience, and a few veterans gave their best.
75 year "young" Georges Labrecque decided to return to the 3 lift event and get some 75 Kg
Master III records on the CPU list, which he did sucessfully. He inspired many young and not so
young lifters and spectators.
Some of our World Championships representatives, Serge Charest, Philippe Bertin and Bruno Maltais
had a good day.
Marc Rioux had a very good day and broke Daniel Royer's single lift 110 Kg open B.P. record by
pushing 210 kg with 3 white lights. He also plans to return to the 3 lift events this spring
and break more records.
New-Brunswick newcommers Asied Debly,Chris and Sean Johnson also had a very good day. It was
their first experience on the platform, and one of them, Chris Johnson, managed to win best
Master lifter award in the bench press. Congratulations, and welcome to powerlifting guys.

Well folks, here it is; the first Quebec provincial championship in a few years.
Not too many lifters and the attempts came pretty fast. But we all managed to qualify
for the Nationals. Thanks to Jean-Noël Turcotte and Gisèle Mathieu for letting us use
their gym and fine equipment for the event. Thanks to Mike Armstrong for his great
support and putting up with a few dozen of my e-mail messages. All that is left to
do is expand and bring our federation to where it used to be. See you all at the nationals!
